Celebrating Our Top Twenty Tigers

An annual banquet honoring the Top Twenty Tigers of the senior class of Neville High School and the teachers who inspired them is sponsored by the Neville Alumni and Friends Association (NAFA).

It is NAFA’s mission statement: “to provide supplemental funding for programs or projects to enhance the quality of instructional delivery and student life, and to promote excellence in higher education at Neville High School.”

Ashley Elston - NHS Class of 1991

Guest Speaker 2025

Ashley Elston is the author of #1 New York Times bestseller and Reese’s Book Club pick, First Lie Wins. First Lie Wins has been optioned for television by ABC Signature with Octavia Spencer and Krista Vernoff attached to the project. She is also the author of six YA books. Ashley lives in Louisiana with her husband and three sons.

This prestigious banquet is held each year at the Bayou Pointe Event Center on ULM’s campus. Each honoree is presented with a medallion which states “ULM Appreciates Excellence in Education.” Representatives of the university present the medallions annually.

Each year, we are graced with the presence of a Neville Alum as guest speaker for our banquet. Our 2024 speaker was Dr. John A. Davis, Class of 1986.

The Ouida McGee Educator Excellence Award

At our banquet each year, The Ouida McGee Educator Excellence Award is presented to a Neville teacher who is outstanding in his/her field of education and goes way beyond their appointed course work to teach and mentor our students. Our benefactors of this award are Mr. & Mrs. Mike McGee ’64 and Mrs. Susan McElroy Weaver ’69 of James Machine Works. This award is presented each year by the previous year’s winner. Our 2024 winner was Kathy Rasco, Neville teacher for over 30 years and Neville Class of 1967.

Neville Alumni and Friends Enjoy Events Throughout the Year

Join us at our next monthly meeting to work with your fellow members as we plan programs & projects such as beautification projects for our historic campus or one of our annual events where we honor, reward and/or award our students and teachers. Your membership also gives you an opportunity to make a nomination for Alumni and Friend of the Year, an honor reserved for those that have given of their time, talents, and/or resources to make Neville High School the best!
